Equine Anatomy in Layers
Discover the Hidden Layers Beneath the Skin
I am Ivana Ruddock Lange, the face behind the Equine Anatomy in Layers.
I graduated from veterinary uni some years ago, and returned there as a young assistant at the Anatomy department to teach students of the first year the general anatomy. I loved that job!
Anatomy became my passion!
I would like to continue to educate people around horses that might be horse owners, bodyworkers, trainers, riders, trimmers, and saddle fitters. To show them that the horse’s body is not as strong, as we think; we need to acknowledge their weaknesses and work with their strengths.
I had the privilege to work with many horses' bodies, that had to be put to sleep due to sickness, injuries or conditions associated with old age. Different breeds, ages, sizes, sexes. I made a promise to each of those horses, that with their help, we can teach many people to learn more about horses and that will help hundreds of living horses to have a better life with us, humans.
I spent many hours carefully dissecting, researching the soft tissue and preparing all taken images and videos a way that are pretty, easy to understand, interesting and mostly - educational.
New online class
I dedicated this class to soft tissue, that is such an important medium for equine bodyworkers.
This class will allow you to look under the horse's skin and observe the unique architecture of the body.
Layer by layer we will uncover the soft tissue, the fascia, muscles with their origins and insertions, and also we will explore the abdominal cavity as it is important for many professionals as well.
BUT we will learn the most important truth about the body - that everything is interconnected and each body is one perfectly designed amazing unit, that will require unique whole-leistic address.

Giovanni Battista Morgagni, the father of anatomical pathology
"I have to say, Ivana Ruddock's Equine Anatomy in Layers is hands down the most accurate and trustworthy source on equine anatomy I have ever come across - full stop."
"This was very informative and useful. I have really enjoyed it. I have gained a much bigger understanding of both anatomy and movement. Thank you!
"I have been working my way through Ivana's anatomy class. I have followed her Patreon for months and always found her generosity with knowledge and insight so inspiring. You don't need to be a vet or anatomist to take an interest in anatomy. Knowing the insides of a horse makes it much easier to understand the outside presentation."
Amy Skinner
I would highly recommend the Equine Anatomy in Layers course to anyone wanting to improve their knowledge of equine anatomy. Ivana is brilliant at explaining things in a way that is easy to understand. It is like having a live dissection in my pocket wherever I go.

Absolutely enjoyed this course. Thank you for taking all the time and hard work to explain and label. Very educational, not only for where everything sits, but being able to see how it's connected and moves. Thank you!

This has to be the most thorough, detailed and informative anatomy resource I have found. The presentation is clear, and Ivana has done a brilliant job of breaking down the content into manageable sections. A very user-friendly presentation allows for repetition of content, and I really appreciate how accessible this makes the information for those of us who need to go over it numerous times! Thank you, Ivana, it is just amazing!
Simple book for learning equine anatomy
With emphasis on the visual, this book is composed of photographs of live horses in different postures and phases of movement, some augmented with superimposed images of bones and muscles, as well as photographs of dissected fresh cadavers revealing many interacting layers of muscle and connective tissue, all the way to the skeletal system.
You can order a printed or online version.
I am passionate about equine anatomy, I like helping people to understand the horse's body. Their intricate systems, structures and body parts.
I do prepare a lot of educational material for my Patreon page, it is a page where we can safely discuss findings, a place where we can learn from each other.
My Patrons support my work, helping me to produce the material that takes hours to make.
Some of my findings help them to look at the horse's body differently. It can help them to grow as professionals, many of them are equine therapists, veterinarians, and osteopaths. For them, knowledge of anatomy is very important.
Everybody can learn anatomy, basic knowledge, intermediate or at the professional level. Visual learning is an effective way to gain knowledge.
Content on this site, images and videos used in my classes capture the whole horse dissection.
